I want to join other 100 Million actions
As youth leaders and human rights activists from across the world, we demand immediate action to prevent a child rights disaster happening as a result of COVID-19.
In richer countries, families can stay at home and stock up on food, but millions of poorer children have no means to do the same. Nearly one in every five children in the world lives on $2 a day or less, many of them in informal settlements too crowded to isolate, or living with underlying health conditions that put them at risk if they contract the virus. If the food supply is affected, or their adult family members cannot work, they will go hungry and soon starve.
Trillions of dollars are being allocated to the COVID-19 response but the vast majority has gone to those best able to cope and some of the richest companies are benefitting the most. We believe world leaders must ensure $1 trillion - equivalent to 20% of the $5 trillion in global response funding - goes to protect the most vulnerable children and their families. Until the virus is defeated everywhere it won’t be defeated anywhere. Everyone must be included in the COVID-19 response and protected from the immediate and longer-term impacts of the pandemic, and none more so than the world’s most vulnerable children.
We stand together to demand justice for every child.
